"Modern" site and Garmin Express not sending Course to Edge 800

I have a new Garmin 800, but I have been using a wide variety of Garmin sports products for years. (I am a triathlete.)

Using the "modern" connect.garmin.com and Garmin Express, I am able to sync activities to my account from the Edge (and my other devices). For the first time since the switch, I tried to download a course to my 800 yesterday. Despite many of my usual tricks I could not get this to work.

I am using very recent versions of all software: Mac OS 10.9.2, Safari/Firefox/Chrome, Garmin Express 3.1.5

When I switched back to using the "classic" mode in connect.garmin.com, I was able to download the course without any trouble. However, this workaround will probably not be supported indefinitely. Another workaround, namely just exporting the crs file to my desktop and then manually moving it to the Edge [such as you might do from mapmyride.com] did not seem possible.

Is this a known bug? Something that is going to be fixed? Or a problem that is unique to me?

Thanks,
William
  • We are currently seeing this issue in the Modern Connect view on the Mac. It has been reported to the Connect team and will be resolved in a coming update. Garmin Express 3.2.3 was released for Mac yesterday, but I don't believe this issue was reported in time to be included in that update. For now, you can still use Classic Connect or Modern Connect on a PC.

  • Seems I am suffering some of this also. I use a Mac, i have a 705 and a 500, but the courses are not consitant with each device or the mac. I have courses on my 705 which do not appear on G Connect on the Mac, and equally with the 500. Guys I love the new look etc, but its way too buggy for me yet. Hurry up and fix it please. I'll stick with the old one for a while.

Thank you William! ;) I switched to classic mode and it worked 1st time, having struggled with Garmin Express for 30 mins to download a course onto my Edge 800. I'm using a PC with Windows 8. There's clearly a bug in the upgrade.

  • Exactly the same issue - spent 3 hours messing about trying all options last night with my Mac on the "modern" connect site having just purchased the new Edge 1000 (which is great by the way - if not completely overpriced)...I realise you are attending to this issue but just to note that the message which comes up on my screen having tried to send it from the "modern" screen is "URL://launchagent.com - and then it asks to go to the App Store or choose a Mac application that opens it...needless to say there are no such applications as this is evidently a bug. I have wasted a huge amount of time with this and hope you are able to rectify urgently. I guess that now people are identifying the issue, you are on the case - I should have looked at this thread last night ! Many thanks - Simon

I use a Chromebook and it appears there is no way to manually download activities from my device in the modern view. Are there any plans to enable a manual download with the "modern" website? At this rate I will either be forced to ditch my Chromebook or my Garmin, or both, and just use my iPhone instead (which a lot of my friends are doing).

Please see the FAQ: How do I manually upload data from USB devices to Garmin Connect? for instructions on manually uploading activities from the device to Connect.

How do you "send to device" using the modern site? Click on"send to device", get the dialogue box:

"Previously your device talked to Garmin Connect or your computer using the Garmin Communicator PluginTm or the Garmin ANT AgentTm. Both have been replaced by the new Garmin ExpressTm program"

OK, will do, pretty sure I've been through this before though.

    "Start Using Garmin Express"

OK, I'll click that, no other option. It downloads, tries to install, but says it's already installed. Thought so.

Open up Express, the device is recognised (oregon 600) but the only things to do within Express are look at the settings for the device itself and check for updates for the device.

Back to connect. Click "send to device" again, hoping it'll work with express open.

    Same dialogue box as before.

    "Download & Install
    Plug In
    Link Your Device
    Garmin Connect"

No help at all. Using Google Chrome and Windows 7. Seems there's a feedback loop that needs to be closed.

Just got myself back to the classic site and it worked 1st time in less than a second. click "send to device" and it sends to device. Perfect.

Please don't close the classic site until the modern site is useable.

    Thanks!
