I received my Garmin as a gift while I was in the lower 48. Soon after, I went to Canada for study abroad, so I downloaded and installed the Canadian maps along with the NE US maps. Yes, I will buy a microSD card soon so I can fully expand the memory, however, right now I just want to add back in the SE US maps since I live in TN. Every time I try to do so, one of two things happens:
1) I go to apps and click the Garmin Express logo, it tries to install Garmin Express again. If this happens and I allow it to install again, after it installs, if my Garmin was already plugged in, I have to run the Garmin Express, let it try to find the device (it never can on the first try.) Then I have to close the program and eject the Garmin and restart the whole thing so it can find my device.
2) Should it just start up or after it's found my device, it will tell me the 50 US States information needs updating. I tell it to update and it gives me "Oops not enough room" message. After I click that I just want to install a certain region, it takes me to the region select screen. I have let that screen sit for 20 minutes before and it never populates, it just acts like it's loading...forever. Thus, I can never install just the SE like I want to do because there are no options to do so.
I need to know if there is a way to either download the maps I want directly from the website or what I need to do. I have tried deleting the program and reinstalling it and that didn't work either. I'm doing it from my laptop, so I don't know if that makes any difference, I do seem to recall though that when I did it from my desktop, I ran into all the same problems. Do I need to just delete the map files completely from my Garmin and start over or what? Honestly, it seems to me Garmin has released a very buggy program in order to do updates. The device itself is a Nuvi 40
