Garmin Express Hangs on Mac

Hi all. I've been studying many of the threads herein, and believe I have a similar situation; however, no solution thus far. Specifically:

1. I've installed Garmin Express (rev. 3.1.4.0).
2. I've an account on the Gramin Connect Website and can login successfully.
3. My Forerunner 310XT pairs beautifully (I am able to add the device) and shares data with my MacBook Air (running OSX 10.9.2).
4. I can "apparently" login into my existing account on the Garmin Connect Website from the Garmin Express Application; however...the Garmin Express software simply hangs on the "Loading Connect data..." and spins indefinitely.

Please note that I have deleted all Garmin instances within the Keychain Access Utility - again to no avail.

Any suggestions or assistance would be most welcome.

Thank you,

David

    Having the exact same problem

Same issue here, exactly as described. Same laptop and same OS. It used to work perfectly just last week but now nothing. Quick support would be appreciated.

OK....I have found the solution. It turns out (thank you), that the initial thread that I read which cites the Apple Keychain Utility is actually the correct solution. In addition, and at the bottom of that thread, the author indicates (parenthetically) that a hard reset of the Forerunner itself (the watch) needs also to occur.

Once you reset the Watch, remove all the files from the Keychain Utility (and for extra measure), completely delete all Garmin apps and reinstall...then everything will run perfectly.

At least it is on this end.

Good luck and don't give up.

Okay thanks for the help, I will try it. Kinda sucks though that I'll lose all the data on the watch itself...oh well, I'll be glad to have it resolved :)
  • I'm not sure that is the whole problem. I have the same problem on my iMac. To test if it's a MAC based problem I did a fresh install on my Macbook (which did not have any garmin software previously installed) and it shows exactly the same problem.

Did you perform a Master Reset on your device? If the issue was Mac/Express related then it would be more wide spread on consistent. The main reason the 310XT has trouble with Garmin Express and Connect is due to data on the watch. Even though your technically not receiving an error, look through the information in the FAQ: Why do I receive an error when I try to add my Forerunner 310XT to Garmin Express?

  • I'm seeing the same problem. Curt, the FAQ you've linked to just reads "Content is unavailable because it is set to PRIVATE." when I follow the link.

I've been struggling with this problem for nearly two weeks and as a result have a significant amount of data built up on the watch. I'm less than pleased that the solution requires I wipe the data. Wouldn't I have been better off with an "old-fashioned" stopwatch and a map, then?
  • Ahhh, the 3.1.5.0 update has solved the problem, before I bit the bullet and reset the device. Thank you! Now if only we hadn't spent all this time gnashing our teeth trying to sort it out. I was convinced it was a network issue and was all set to Wireshark the sucker...
  • Ok - there is definitely a problem with the mac software and the 310 devices.

without a master reset I have been able to connect and upload the workouts onto a windows machine (I have bootcamp installed) via Ant Agent.

Connecting the same device that worked under windows to a mac still gives the same problem.

Following a master reset I can then add the device and download workouts. So it does look like there is some state in the device that is causing issues - but not the data, and only causes issues in the Mac software.

I have also noticed that the Garmin software on the mac will not shut down after it has had problems, even if I cleanly cancel out of the process. I need to perform a force quit on the process.

Garmin - please comment on this issue. I don't want to be either uploading through windows or performing hard resets on my device to make this work.

Please make sure the 310XT is updated to software version 4.50 and Garmin Express is updated to version 3.2.5. Delete the 310XT from Express then update Express. Add the device back to Express and verify the software version is 4.50 on the Device page.

How do I update Garmin Express?

At this point if everything is up to date, the 310XT should upload activities or receive workouts and courses from Garmin Connect Modern view.

If you continue to have troubles provide specific details on what is failing. Use the Show Details buttons in the Sync Now section to see what files are failing to Sync.
