Garmin Express error?

Hi! I have two Garmin Nuvi 1390LMT units with 8GB MicroSD cards installed on each. When I tried to update my maps, Garmin Express reports that I have Lower 49 on one unit and USA Canada maps installed on the other one. I am supposed to have City Navigator North America NT on both units with free lifetime updates. So I downloaded Garmin MapInstall and used it to update both units. According to MapInstall I now have City Navigator North America NT 2014.4 and CN North America NT 2014.40 on each unit. Garmin Express still reports that I have the smaller maps installed. Which program should I trust? :-)

Is Garmin MapInstall correct? Also, what is the difference between City Navigator North America NT and CN North America NT? Thanks in advance for your help!
  • No difference. They are the same maps.

I suspect Express is confused. I assume you have the GPS connected to your PC?

Try deleting it from Express then reassociating it.

Incidentally did you mean MapUpdater instead of MapInstall?

    Hi!

Thanks for the response. I used Garmin MapInstall version 4.1.0. I did not use MapUpdater because that is a Windows application.
  • Sorry, thought I was in the Windows section. Did reassociating your GPS resolve the error? The FAQ is here and contains a few more ideas for you to check

I deleted Garmin Express and reinstalled it before connecting my Nuvi 1390LMT. It still reports that I have the Lower 49 file installed on the unit. Garmin Mapinstall says that I have City Navigator North America NT and CN North America NT installed. I assume there is something wrong with Garmin Express.

Garmin Express will not recognize maps sent to an SD card or internal memory through MapInstall. You should not need MapInstall at all with the the 1390LMT and Express. I recommend you delete everything from the microSD card then use the re-install option in Express. Since the Nuvi doesn't have enough internal memory to hold North America, Express will prompt you to use a SD card. Express should recognize the SD card and install North America to it.

Can I load maps directly to an SD card during a map update?

Curt: Thanks for the suggestion. I am now trying Garmin Map Update 4.5.1 (for Mac). I will stay away from Garmin MapInstall!

Garmin Map Update seems to have worked. I now have US&Canada full versions installed on each Nuvi.
