Backup?

Does Garmin Express also make a back-up of my device (FR620 in my case) to the HDD of my Mac?

If not, it would be a great feature to add (including a restore function). I would also prefer to be able to choose to restore a back-up for a couple of connect back, let say 5 back-ups max. This would enable me for example to undo a firmware update of the watch.
  • Not that I know of. Express can backup certain data from a device, but it doesn't back up everything (and I don't know whether it supports backups of the FR620 at all).
Even if it did, it would be impossible to restore the firmware from a backup anyway, because ony the device has access to the part of the memory where the firmware is stored (meaning that it isn't possible to back it up in the first place).
  • The only data that gets backed up to the computer for a Forerunner 620 are the Activities that have been uploaded to Connect through Express. The location of those files is described in this FAQ: Why are my activities files not being stored on my computer once I have uploaded them to Garmin Connect using Garmin Express?

All fitness and profile data should be backed up to Garmin Connect when you sync. JAVAWA is correct about the firmware updates. They are loaded onto a software chipset in the watch that isn't accessible via mass-storage. If you are having functionality issues with a certain firmware version, I would recommend looking at our Forerunner 620 Forum to see if anyone else has ran into any issues.

  • don't rust GARMIN with your data, just lost yesterdays ride, said it had synced but can't find it on device, computer or connect.

Promised were made years ago that data would be fine on transfer from motion based to connect, was any one surprised when Garmin lost lots of data? DO NOT TRUST YOUR DATA WHOLEY TO THEM.
