Garmin Express Map Installation

In Garmin Express, on Mac, I tried downloading the latest maps for my Nuvi 560. It doesn't have enough space on it so I went out and bought a 16GB Panasonic SDHC card, When I tried again, Garmin Express doesn't give me an option to use a memory card. Instead it forces me to chose a region when I don't want to. I want to have the entire North American map and I have an SDHC card but Garmin Express won't even give me an option to choose it
  • Try using GarminMapUpdater for mac instead. Note though Garmin recommend max size card for nuvi of 8Gb, although some larger cards do work. Ensure too the card is formated FAT32.

The nuvi 500 series does not support the SD card feature during the map update. You would need to select a smaller region, install the maps to the device and computer, and use Garmin MapInstall to load the remaining maps to the SD card.

For more details on this process and a full list of devices that don't support the SD card feature during the map update, refer to the FAQ: What do I do if my device doesn't support the SD card feature during the Garmin Express map update?
