Apple Silicon Support

Garmin, please update Garmin Express and release a NATIVE arm64 release for macOS.

Apple hasn't sold an Intel Mac in *years* and it's beyond embarrassing that zero effort has been put into support Apple users.

Reminder, Apple users have more disposable income than any other type of computer buyer. Do the right thing and put some engineering effort into this growing platform!

  • Javawa,

Who exactly are you to tell Mac users that they have to install emulator software to run Windows software when the actual MacOS *should* work on the Mac properly? It's not whining to expect Garmin to release native, properly functioning MacOS software when they've literally had YEARS to do it. Now they're up against a deadline where their Intel-based apps won't function at all. I've been using Garmin products for 25 years, and they have always been doing this. They need to get their damned act together.

  • We are looking for an Arm64 app specifically designed for Macs with M processors not hotchpotch bastardized Intel only applications that rely on Apples Rosetta, for which they quite rightly are pulling support with the next OS28. Pretty cheeky from Garmin.

  • Thanks, that is more or less what i expected - will set up a watcher on the Express Page.

  • Alright! since we are in 2026, and everyone is vibe coding - I have developed an Apple Silicon compatilbe app that takes care of activities, maps, music, watch faces etc. - anything that I could directly interact with the watch. ConnedIQ is not supported since it is a Garmin API.

I have also added some features to convert GPX, FIT and other formats to be compatible without requiring users to do that outside.

Feedback is greatly appreciated and if you can buy me a coffee, I will cheers to you.

Note - Since I am not associated with Garmin, please use it as a third party app. I can assure you I am not collecting any data, nor the app needs any internet connection etc. Also, the feedback is via email so per your convenience.

  •   I do the same for Music Manager. But the things that is more important is the timing: I start this project a couple of weeks ago... Garmin... 6 Years ?????

Just posted today my project on GitHub

It is not perfect but works on Silicon / MacOS 26 and later / NO ROSETTA

  • As a long term Garmin user, I had some of the very early Garmin devices, and still have a working collection.  I am also an Apple user for over two decades.  In scanning just this single thread, I started out by looking for my Garmin mapping and device tools to work under Apple Silicon.  Frankly I am appalled by the lack of useful information, or even just useful responses, by Garmin.  In its current state, my many Garmin maps will no longer work or even just managed, by my Mac in 2027.  I am deeply disappointed by Garmin.  Currently, I am in need to update and upgrade my handheld and portable car GPS -- I am stopping my effort in looking for Garmin devices, as it's clear that Garmin may cease to work for me within a year.  "...we don't typically announce... for nine months?

Garmin:  Do you want to keep your loyal customers of several decades, or not?  It's a race between getting a useful response from Garmin and when my search for a new GPS company will happen.   Many Garmin users are clearly at stake -- and our GPS devices have been and are in use both at home and at work.

With great apologies for the negativity.  Not my style.  I would be very happy to be shown wrong and accept the responsibility that comes with it.

  • I completely agree and to be frank, as soon as a new MacOS drops and Garming have failed to update the MacOS app I will move over to an Apple watch even with the battery penalty that incurs. My patience is at an end.

  • Oh my God Gamin. I can't believe I am spending 700 EUR on a watch and you don't even bother to support software for updates, that is so embarrassing. Maybe it's time for a switch to Suunto.
