Apple Silicon Support

Garmin, please update Garmin Express and release a NATIVE arm64 release for macOS.

Apple hasn't sold an Intel Mac in *years* and it's beyond embarrassing that zero effort has been put into support Apple users.

Reminder, Apple users have more disposable income than any other type of computer buyer. Do the right thing and put some engineering effort into this growing platform!

  • Garmin release a new GE ver.7.29.3.0 (c60c5cbb0) that fix some of the error with fenix 9 and map manager. This works on MacOS 26 and 27 but it is again under Rosetta and not under Silicon. Under MacOS 27 still remain the unfuncional 4 buttons, so no Music, app IQ and so on...

  • Garmin is the most complacent company I've ever seen — five years without a native Apple Silicon build. Beyond disappointed.

  • I can certainly agree on the disappointment, but to be fair, they are certainly not the only company that still relies on Intel based applications. I have over 400 applications and there are several that even today, get updates that are still Intel coded. It seems a lot of companies used CodeWarrior and it can't create Universal applications. And yes they should have at least started a transition back in 2020, but they were and are lazy, relying on the availability of Rosetta 2. It's also somewhat insidious about applications that are mostly universal, but rely on some framework that is still Intel. Parallels Desktop comes to mind as an example. Not quite there yet. TurboTax as well. You may want to try out the free Go64 application and see for yourself. Anyway, they updated the software a bit and at least should install now under macOS 27. GarminExpress 7.29.3.0 Intel macOS11.dmg

  • Garmin Express is the one and only app on my system that needs Rosetta. For about 3 years. Updates directly from the watch are very unstable, and for about 6 years they've been too lazy to tweak a simple sync program.

What's so unfair about pointing that out?

Garmin also excels at making such a simple program so unintuitive, but that's another topic. They even are unable to choose a common forum software. So cluttered.

  • On my Mac Garmin is the only one. I've checked via about this Mac, More Info, System overview, Software, Apps. Then sort on last column and there you are.....

  • It's great to see how many people are upset and frustrated with Garmin for NOT addressing this issue. And it's nice that we can all VENT to each other. But does ANYONE at Garmin read these messages and care at all about this topic??  I recall seeing Garmin rep comment on this topic a long time ago that Garmin was aware of the issue and was going to issue an update to the GE app "sometime in the future". I have seen anything else since then...

  • Google Earth is another one, but at least there is a browser version available.
