Garmin Express refuses to find my BMW Motorrad Nav V when I attempt to add it as a "new device."

I'm using a Macbook Air running Sequoia and v 7.25.0.0 of Garmin Express.  Device is connected directly to the computer using a USB-C to micro USB cable.

GE sometimes crashes on startup and when it doesn't it says "couldn't find a device or ANT stick."

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?  Thank you.
