Garmin Express 7.25.0.0 Update - Mac won't detect my watch

I opened the Garmin Express app to update my watch and it prompted me to update the Garmin Express application on my computer. I decided to update the computer application before updating my watch, so I went through the steps and installed the Express update.

Now my watch won't connect to Express. It just says "Not Connected". When I go into express and click "install updates" to my watch, the window pops up that says "To continue, plug your Forerunner 955 into your computer", where it just sits there, doing nothing, despite my watch being plugged in.

The cord works just fine as my watch is charging AND Express recognized it prior to the update.

I have uninstalled Express and reinstalled it, unplugged and re-plugged my watch back in, still no change.

My device is a Forerunner 955 and my Mac OS is Sequoia 15.3.2. The version of Express I updated to is 7.25.0.0

Please help.

  • I'm having a similar problem with my 955 and Garmin Express on my Mac, but in my case, Garmin Express crashes completely, and I have to force quit it. All Bluetooth on my Mac stops, and I can't update the watch. It's absolutely crazy!

  • I'm using sequoia 15.1.1 and the silly Garmin Express wont find my watch either. Venu Sq.
I found this unhelpful article that says you have to give it permission to read removable volumes but that option doesn't appear in my system settings under Garmin Express. In fact the only way I could get GE to appear under Files and Folders was to give it full disk permission. That didn't solve the problem.
In the process of fiddling with GE I got some service installed that lets me see what's on the watch, but I can't write to it.
    very cross!

  • Update: Installing Garmin Express installed MTP for MAC. That's why I could see the watch in Finder but not write to it.
I finally noticed a MTP settings pane at the bottom RHS of system settings. That's MTP for MAC. I uninstalled that and now both Commander One and OpenMTP work and I was able to copy music to my watch. I was *this* close to buying some walkman headphones!

  • I'm pretty sure that Express did not install "MTP for Mac", an obscure free application from Russia...

It didn't install it on my Mac, probably you installed it yourself. It does explain your problems though, because access to MTP devices is exclusive on MacOS. Only one program can access your device at the same time, MTP for Mac in this case. Express and other programs cannot acces it anymore.
