Trouble updating maps with Express

Everytime I charge my fenix 8, it asks to start downloading topoactive maps updates. If I say yes, it takes a whole day to download over wifi. I finally did this yesterday. It took the whole day until I went to bed at 9 pm for the download to complete 100%. I go to charge my watch today, and it is asking to download the map update again. I know that you should be able to update maps faster through Garmin Express, but express never shows or downloads the map update. 

I have tried reinstalling the maps through Garmin Express, but this doesn't help. I still get asked if I want to start downloading maps over wifi when I plug the watch in. 

Anyone else have this issue, or know how to fix it?

    Correct. You already have the current map on the device.

    It is a bug in the watch's map manager. Not in Express.

    Perhaps you have installed the latest map?

  • When I go into map manager on my watch and select topoactive maps, is says update available. It has been doing this for weeks, and when I've let the update complete 100% during charging, it will still say that there is an update in queued.

    Is there a way to force Garmin Express to download this update and install it this way?

  • Update:

    From the map manager menu, I had two options. Select TopoActive Maps, which said I had the map queued to install the next time I charged my watch. The second option is to Add Map. I selected that and it eventually pulled up a list of all topoactive maps available for download. Upon exiting from that menu, the TopoActive North America was then displayed and instead of saying it was queued, it now read 7.3 GB. When selecting that map and viewing the details, it says map version 2024.20 which is the most recent update from the link you provided. It seems it may have been a bug.

  • Same problem here! I lost more than 24 hours on downloading topoactive Europe maps updates from map manager on my Fenix 7X Pro. It's like a loop, after waiting more than 6 hours to finish, at 100% downloading progress it starts from beginning. I thought it was a multiple package update, but after 5 loops (at 6 hours per loop, so more than a full day waiting) I giveup. Then I found this topic. Silly me thinking it was a multiple downloading packages :)

    Hope Garmin will fix this map manager bug!
