Garmin Express - get maps for the area I am visiting

I recently bought an Edge 1040. I am currently visiting Spain and would like to load a suitable cycling map to the device. When I follow links to purchase a cycling map for Europe the page says "Edge® 540/840/1030 Plus/1040/1050/Explore 2 Series devices do not require purchase for Garmin Cycle Maps and offer free map swaps and updates via Garmin Express".

But when I go into Garmin Express I see no way to do this.

Without a map the 1040 cannot re-route me when I get lost (pops up a message saying route calculation error), I basically have just a breadcrumb trail. I am riding quite back-country trails which are sometimes blocked so this is quite important to me right now!

  • The Edge 1040 comes with world wide coverage of the Garmin Cycle Maps. Depending on where you bought the unit, the maps for your region/continent are already installed. For example when bought in Europe, the unit contains Cycle Maps for the whole of Europe.

If you need to install maps for a different region, or want to reinstall maps for your current region, see the instructions at support.garmin.com/.../
