Issue connecting Approach S10 up to Mac through Garmin Express software

I am having an issue connecting my Garmin Approach S10 watch up to my Mac through the Garmin Express software. Ultimately I am just looking to update the watch software and courses.

The steps that I take to connect the watch up are as follows:

[1] I open the garmin express software (it is version 7.22.1.0)

[2] I click the add a device button

[3] I plug the physical device into the back of my Mac via a usb-c convertor into the usb cable that came with the approach s10

[4] A screen shows: "plug in a device, ant stick or memory card" - this displays for a really long time and never finds the device

[5] The screen eventually shows "we couldnt find a device or ant stick" "what are you trying to add" - this screen does not show the device as an option

Additionally I have tried the following:

[a] Rebooting several times and repeating steps 1 through 5 above

[b] I have tried both USB-C ports on the back of the Mac

[c] I have tried a second USB-C to USB standard convertor

[d] I have verified that the device appears in System Information on the Mac - it is showing under hardware / usb / usb 3.1 Bus - and the vendor id shows as "0x091e (Garmin International)" "Capacity 126.6 mb"

[e] I have checked the USB wire for any cuts or nicks - and all appears to be okay.

Has anyone else had this same issue with Garmin Express simply not finding the watch at all?

Many thanks and very grateful for any help anyone might be able to give.

  • Hi I am having exactly the same problem. HA your issue been resolved yet?

  • I have same same issue here. Watch always worked great and i often brought it current with Garmin Express. Last week i got "no course near" on watch. I tried to connect to Express to upoad cuurent data but would not recognize   - i bought new cable on line ( non Garmin since they do not make anymore) - did not fix! I called support and he said they do not support S2 anymore so if new cable didn't work they offered 25% discount on new watch ?

  • bought new cable on line ( non Garmin since they do not make anymore) - did not fix! I

Side note: Have the seller assure you that it is a DATA cable. Some third-party cables only support the charging function and not data transfer.

  • Pretty sure Garmin is putting S2 out to pasture- really sorry since has worked great for a long time - want you to buy current versions

    • Any luck ? Same issue here with my S2 and have tried everything including new usb charger cord
