Garmin Nüvi 2597LMT not connecting to Garmin Express (MacBook Air M2)

I would like to update to map on my Nüvi 2597LMIT but the Garmin device never shows up on the desktop of my Macbook Air M2 13" and therefore in Garmin Express de Nüvi is always shown as not connected.

I have tried out various USB cables that worked as datacables on other devices (eg Arduino, ..) and even connected the Nüvi with a USB cable to the USB-C port on the MBAir (using an adapter). All without success.

On the other side the Edge830 works without any problems, even connected to an USB-Hub.

I am stuck, can anyone help?

  • thanks for you tip @sussamb but I have read this pages already yesterday. I knew what kind of ports my MacBook Air has (TB/USB4) and my Nüvi2597 isn't listed on either of the FAQ items.

Regarding adapter cables suggested by Garmin, they nowhere were showing the USB-C to USB-Mikro connector the Nüvi has. This is really a very old style, no other Garmin device I own does have one. They have the newer USB-Micro connectors.

To make sure no other piece of software is capturing the USB driver I started the MBAir in "Save Mode" just to see if the Nüvi mounts as a disk drive as all the other Garmin devices (Edge, Forerunner) were doing. But even this failed.

Seems like the Nüvi uses some outdated hardware. This way, it's no use if I have a lifelong map update and the hardware is no longer supported.
