feature-request: download maps before connecting to the device

It would be nice if GE could download the maps "in advance", so we don't have to connect the watch/edge to GE and wait for hours just to download the huge map files.

I'm not sure why you're waiting 'for hours '. The EU map downloads in under 30 minutes.

You missed the point. It's not about my internet connection's speed, it's about having to have the watch connected for no real reason during the download.

Well, it depends. Sometimes it took me hours to download stuff with Garmin express. It would be nice to connect it to express, see what updates are needed, then let it to download them on it's own and go back to it when you're ready to update it.

Is that really a hardship? I just connect my devices when not needed and leave them to it.

I wear my watch 24/7. But let me ask the other way around: Why is it so hard to modify GE to be more user friendly?

I suspect it's to do with Garmin ensuring maps cannot be pirated, but if you want that try making the suggestion here www.garmin.com/.../
