Connecting Fenix 5X to new Macbook Air running Sonoma 14.2.1

Anyone else having this problem? I absolutely cannot connect my Fenix 5X to new Macbook Air running Sonoma 14.2.1. Garmin Express will not recognize it. It does, however, charge. I have done everything humanly possible. Uninstalled, reinstalled all apps. Restored the Fenix 5 to factory settings. Contact Garmin support. Exchanges a few email. Bought new Garmin cable. All worthless. Seriously. What is wrong?

  • There were some changes for USB in the 14.3 update.

  • Ok. Thanks. So what does that mean? Do I need to do anything different? Is it a lost cause?

  • Have you tried upgrading to macOS 14.3?

  • yes indeed. i've updated. and deleted and reinstalled Garmin Express. nothing works. this is beyond frustrating to say the least.

  • Garmin 5X on a Macbook Pro 2021 M1.running Sonoma 14.4 beta.

I initially had the same problem. I used an Apple USB-C to USB Adapter (model A1632) to connect, but then the watch would only charge and Express could not find the watch. Then I purchased a Apple
USB C Digital AV Multiport Adapter (MUF82Z/A) and now Express sees my Garmin and I can update everything. It should work for you too, Jan M Netherlands

  • Oh... strange... Had this problem... My Fenix 7x pro don't connect with my macmini m1 with original garmin connect cable (usb-c) but if I use a cheap adactator (usb-usbc) everything work fine...

About 3/4 month ago I had a fenix 7x (non pro) with original cable NOT usb-cand everythig work without adaptator...

  • Hello Gianluca, I also use the Garmin cable with the Apple cable as an adapter from USB A to USB C.
I only use original Apple cables. But if a non-apple cable works then that's excellent. they are much cheaper! Sometimes computers are strange things. Saluti
  • Hello Jan, Yeah informatic is bit strange.

  • thanks everyone for your advice and input. I have tried everything! I have updated my MacBook, updated Garmin Express, I've used Garmin USB-C cables, I've used generic USB-C cables. I also purchased the USB C Digital AV Multiport Adapter that JanMeijer suggested below. Absolutely nothing works. This is beyond frustrating. I tend to think it's a Garmin issue. Garmin watches have always been finicky with connections and finding devices. Whether it's on my phone or laptop. Anyone from Garmin want to speak up? :-(

  • Mhh… I try… do you have a kindle scribe?
