Garmin Express can not find my FOrerunner 305

On my MAC, I am unable to upload activities, garmin express can not find the Forerunner 305.   Switched cables same result, those same cables work for my Garmin Edge 500.

    I’ve been reading that the usb standards are so old/different in the watch that the newer Mac OS won’t support it directly again. The original box mentions Mac OS 10.4 or newer for compatibility with the 305 but I think it stops at about high Sierra

    I intended to write that it is dependent on the protocol that is used, but that isn't true...

    As a experiment I tried to synchronize my Forerunner 305 with Garmin Express 7.19 on a Mac Mini M2 with Sonoma 14.2.1, and it actually does work without problems...

    Also tried the Forerunner 301 (the first Forerunner with USB), but that didn't work.
