Garmin Express not recognizing SD Card in SmartDrive 60

Hi, I bought a map through Garmin - they sent me a SD Card (4 GB) with the map installed. It worked fine for a while. But now there is an update - and Garmin Express says the card is incompatible.

The card is recognized by Finder on my Mac, and I can read and write onto it (while it is plugged into the GPS slot on the SmartDrive 60)

I have done the following, without any success:

- reformatted the card (FAT32 and MBR)

- tried another card

- tried another cable and another computer

- reinstalled Garmin Express

- spoke to Garmin - their response was - just buy a new device. I am trying to avoid that, as the old one works fine - just no updates possible.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

If you bought a map on a card it's not updateable so what map was it and what is installed on your device?

Map of South America. I have also tried another SD card - with no map…gave the same answer.

And which map was originally installed? It's only that map that can be updated, maps purchased on a sd card aren't eligible for an update.

Bought it in Canada - so assuming the North American map. But why would it say "incompatible card" for regular updates. How do I then update the map on the unit.

When I connect to Express - it does indicated there are updates...

Sorry, are you now saying your unit won't update the map it came with? That's a different issue.

Which version of the map shows in Settings, Map&Vehicles, myMaps

OK, then you're definitely due an update as the latest is 2023.20

Remove the card, run Express, select just the map update ... what error message, if any do you get? If you're told there isn't enough space and to insert an sd card do it then. Note any card you use must be formatted FAT32.

Ok - took out memory card. Connected Garmin to computer. Express indicated it need to update City Navigator North America. File size 7.6GB. When I press install - it asks me to put in a memory card, as it needs more memory to update the map. When I do, it says the card it incompatible. And yes, I have tried 2 different Cards, Formatted to FAT32.

What size cards? Are they legitimate cards or off somewhere like ebay?

32GB Lexar Card
