Cannot connect to the Garmin Express Service

Was prompted to update GE today - macOS Monterey 12.3 - and it crashed on loading.

Full reinstall - losing all my Garmin devices - and after syncing an Edge 810 it kept asking to install under settings.

Did that, quit the app. Started it up and again the same error message.

  • "user settings" not "under settings"

  • UPDATE

Finally, when having tried to connect using a Windows 7.0 computer, things started to work. Too on Apple's Monterey 12.2.1.

In the end it appeared to be a faulty memory card....

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm having the same problem since upgrade to Mac to 12.2.1 Monterey.

Both Virbs Elite can't be found by the USB-port, hence nor by Garmin Express vs. 7.12.3.0.

When switched on through/upon USB connection, after boot they immediately turn off (tried 3 different Garmin USB-cables).

Tried different memory cards, batteries, just in case. And I did reset the devices to factory settings, both, without any luck.

When switched off, and then connected, dito: battery gauge shows up and then it switches off (both).

When connected and then put into recording mode (big switch), the USB symbol is shown in the display, but Monterey and Express don't pick 'm up. Turning record mode off again, let's the camera switched on as if it's totally invisible and not aware of anything.

When trying to find the cameras through Garmin Express (GE), search/add device, GE remains circling around the search message "Connecting device, ANT Stick or memorycard" and finally ends up with the dialog showing 9 device types to choose from for adding. VIRB/camera is not a part of this dialog (...?). This dialog shows in the header (in red)  "There has not been found any device or ANY stick" (freely translated into English).

When choosing the alternative 9th button "Other", the dialog returns to a Help page with 5 points to think of, before hitting "Search again".

    This is a infinite loop....

When using the same USB cable(s) to connect my Garmin Zumo 396, it works fine: the Zumo shows up with a green sign in the Express dialogue, choosing the Zumo works fine ("Connected" and "All software is up-to-date"), SD disks show up in the Finder and I can transfer files to it, directly or through Garmin Basecamp, both successfully.

Guessing USB and Monterey have a SERIOUS issue with Garmin Express, other USB devices work fine. In the past, with the previous version of OSX, it too took a long time before Garmin Express noticed a USB connected device, but with Monterey it is simply NOT working. Now GE doesn't even start automatically whenever a device is connected, despite it's settings.

And, Yes, I've checked the Privacy / Security settings for Garmin Express: files and directories are confirmed to be accessible....and Yes, I did a reboot of the Mac in an ultimate attempt. And Yes, I removed all other USB cables....and as a last resort, thinking about USB sharing power when more cables/devices are connected, I connected a thunderbolt+USB powered hub (Gofanco). This showed up under System Information as a Thunderbolt/USB4 device. Then reconnect the Garmin cable....still no luck.

    Any help, suggestions left??
