Connecting Garmin Edge 810 and Virb Elite to MacBook Pro (M1 chip and USB-C)

Hi,

I can't seem to get my Edge 810 and Virb Elite to show up on my new MacBook Pro with M1 chip and USB-C input only.

I'm working through the Apple USB-C adapter, which has worked fine for Garmin ANT+ dongle and other things.

When I plug in the Virb Elite or the Edge 810 neither seem to enter USB read. I can't see them as drives and Garmin Express can't see them? Same with the Virb Edit software, it just can't see the unit.

Any ideas on what is happening? I have an old MacBook that they used to work fine on, but it is on its last legs, hence buying a new one! I've also got a USB mini to USB C cable on order to see if that makes a difference.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Pete

  • Sooooo, I went through my bag of old cables and found a thicker looking USB Mini cable, plugged that in to the adapter and both the Virb Elite and Edge 810 have been found and updated on the new MacBook.

Can only imagine the other cable is knackered or inferior in some way.
