Tactix Delta Solar 'Cannot Unlock Maps'

Gday all,

Today I did my 3 weekly charge and software/map update for my Tactix Delta Solar through Garmin Express (Mac). There was a Garmin Express Update required to be installed waiting for me along with a map update. Once complete and on unplugging the watch I received 'Cannot Unlock Maps' just after the Loading maps indication you see when unplugging. Garmin Express says my watch is up to date and all maps loaded (I think).

Has anyone had this recently? Suggested fix?

  • So I had the same issue on my Tactix Delta today after syncing with GE on my Mac.

    I had an online 'chat' with Garmin who were no help at all.

    I ended up downloading GE on my wife's PC laptop and syncing maps that way.

    Interestingly 4 map updates were available to be reinstalled on the PC when only 3 updates were available on my Mac.

    Once the 'missing' 4th map had been reinstalled the error disappeared.

    Sounds like an error with the GE App with Macs. Tired face

  • In my conversations with Garmin, it became clear it is a problem only with Macs. No one with a pc has reported the exact same issue.

  • Garmin gave me the infinite steps to take on my mac in order to clear the error and after several times I jus wrote to them that it is unacceptable that for such an expensive watch I have to take so many steps, since expensive equipment usually should solve daily life problems, instead of creating others.

    Their answer was epic: the watch is expensive because it has a lot of features. If I am not willing to follow all the steps Garmin won't give me further support. 

    Ergo: as many companies Garm8n as well ain't responsible at all... my first and last Garmin item I'll ever buy. 

  • Well we are putting more time into it than Garmin it seems, maybe theyll try to fix this issue once and for all if we can narrow it down for them.

  • The new GE version (7.10.0.0) did not fix this. I tried to reinstall all maps, but still no luck. Any news on this ?

  • If you updated Garmin Express and are still receiving the "Can't Authenticate Maps" error message on your device, we recommend the following:

    Remove and re-adding the device from/to Garmin Express: Adding and Removing Devices in Garmin Express

    Complete a full uninstall of Garmin Express: Full Uninstall of Garmin Express/Garmin Express Fails to Uninstall

    After a full uninstall, download Garmin Express again: How Do I Install Garmin Express? | Garmin Support

    If you have followed all the above steps and are still receiving the "Can't Authenticate Maps" or other error message, contact Garmin Product Support for further troubleshooting and assistance.

  • @Garmin-Rob, thanks for the proposed solutions. I tried them all (remove + re-add, full uninstall + download + new install), unfortunately I keep on getting the same error 'Cannot Unlock Maps'. I also tried with Garmin Express on a Windows 10 computer, no luck either. Please advice on further steps to solve.

  • I had the same problem with the map locking problem. I finally got mine to unlock by following Garmin-Robs instructions but with the following step highlighted. Once the map uninstalls, you have to unmount/disconnect the watch and let it restart after each map. It's kind of a pita but it eventually unlocked. I am looking for the original email they sent me in that I am hoping there is NOT a specific order in which you have to un/re-install the maps.

  • That is exactly the reason why I wrote to Garmin that such an expensive watch shouldn't create all this hassle in order to make it work. ;-)
