Managing maps storage location

I bought the CityNavMap 2 days ago and downloaded into the SD card and I cannot see it in GarminExpress when I clicked on ManageMaps.

So, I downloaded it again but this time to the Montana 700. And, I still cannot see the new map under ManageMaps. And, yes, I have shutdown GarminExpress and relauched it. It cannot see it.

But, when I launched BaseCamp, it can see the new map BOTH on the device and on the SD card.

What's going on? Can you help me to troubleshoot this, please?

I do not want to keep both copies.

  • Just delete the map off whichever you want, either the Montana or the card. It'll be the .img file dated and timed with when you downloaded it. Express cannot delete maps.

  • Thanks for the response. It's helpful.

My understanding is that Express can MOVE maps. How do I get to that?

  • I tried deleting the City Map in the Device and rebooted. When it came back up, I navigated in BC to Maps>InstalledMapsInfo, it still showed the City map sitting in the device.

On the LEFT column under "My Garmin Devices", City map seems to be on SD card & Device.

After looking around in the directories, it seems like there is a file located in the Device :

    Garmin/GarminDevice.xml

which has a list of maps.

I'm not going to edit this XML because it may screw it all up. But, my guess is that BC and Express may be looking into this file.

  • You can edit the xml file or even delete it, doesn't matter, your device will recreate it when it reboots.  If BaseCamp is now only showing the one map all is well.
