Why cant I just download maps and not leave my Edge connected for hours?

It seems pretty straight forward to me. I need to download about 25 gigs worth of maps to my Edge and it is going to take hours... why cant Garmin Express just download the maps with out the edge connected to the computer for hours on end while the download happens?

Well it can if you select the option to install the map to the computer, assuming that option exists for the maps you're talking about. As you didn't say I can't be sure.

I dont see that option anywhere and I will look some more when I get home from work.

and no option to download maps unless the Edge is connected. it tells me it will take 24 hours to download. Oh well.

You must have a very slow connection for some reason, the full CN EU map takes around 30 minutes for me.

Mine comes and goes and it ended up taking up an hour so Garmin Express can be screwy with time estimates. Still, it should not require the device be connected to make the download.
