Garmine Explore not detected on macOS

Hi,

 I have the Garmin Explore GPS and I'm unable to connect it to my macOS.

- I installed Garmin Express but it does not detect any device.
- I tried a different USB cable.
- I followed this FAQ (https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=Lov8UjAnxR1pnz9EJ5kPb9) but GE is not prompting me at all for any permissions
- The device itself shows the charging icon when I connect it 
- The device works fine when connected to a Windows PC
- I did uninstall GE and reinstalled the latest version

Any tips?
