Detailed maps disappeared after upgrade

Hello, yesterday I used Garmin Express to update the maps in my Nüvi 55. I need to use a SD card (which seems to be read correctly) for the upgrade. In any case, after the upgrade the detailed map had gone, and I was left with a generic no info map with just the largest highways. I tried to upgrade the map multiple times but no luck. Any idea what I should do to get back to a road map of some sort?

I am on a mac.

That sounds like a plan! I'll try and report back. I suspect that latest software update is causing issues.

The master reset did nothing -- what worked was to install a partial map on the device and not the card. Interestingly when I mount the card and the device on my computer I do NOT find any file that I recognise as a map on the device (no .img files there!), even though now I do get a map -- I was wondering whether the full map that gets installed on the SD card must be changed to a different file type in case the latest update stopped the NUVI from reading .img files.

No, the map will be a .img file but it's no doubt in the hidden .system folder
