Forerunner 405 not seen by Garmin Express on Mac

I have the old Garmin Forerunner 405 and my son would like to resurrect it. I have downloaded Garmin express on to my Mac and plugged in the the USB charger. The Forerunner starts to charge so the computer is obviously seeing the device, however Garmin Express can't find it so I can't add the device to the dashboard. Is there a solution to this out there or is it the case that the Forerunner 405 is just too old to work now with the software? Many thanks in advance for any help.

If it's charging but not seen by Express where did you get the cable? It's possible it's a power and not a data cable.

I have no idea whether your Forerunner will work with Express though.

The cable is for charging only. It won't do data transfer. The only way to transfer data from the 405 is the ANT+ stick.

I have an old 310XT that can still successfully communicate with Garmin Express using the ANT stick.

I think you’re right and probably just a power cable.

Garmin might stock it, but the cost is well over what your device is worth. I'm seeing some on eBay as well.
