Kenwood and Garmin Map Updates in Australia

So it is very misleading as you buy a top model and most expensive Kenwood head unit in Australia like DNX9190DABS or DNX9180DABS and you can't even update the maps.  All official sites say to use Garmin Express but the application then says not compatible with this device.  So you don't even get free updates for three years and you can't even update the maps anyway.  Why have I spent sooo much money on a head unit when you don't even provide updates to the navigation.  In other countries you do.  I might as well buy a cheap head unit without maps and use my phone.  Any answers?  Obviously hard to get a refund now because I've already installed it.

  • I suggest you contact Kenwood, as it's them that implied (presumably) that you could update your maps etc.

  • Yeah they're not much help.  If you can update it looks like you have to pay for it like everything else in Australia but I don't think you can use Garmin Express to do it so I don't know.  So far they haven't been too much help.

  • I received the following from JVCKenwood. Hope it helps.

Garmin navigation map cards supplied with aftermarket head units in Australasia region cannot be updated online. Mapping provider requires that such update is done only via card replacement.

I believe your Garmin card is the model year 2019 (part # KNA-SD742AU). Currently there’s MY20 available (KNA-SD743AU) which you can source through any Repco, Supercheap Auto or Car Audio Specialist which resells Kenwood products nearby you.
