Maps take hours to update on eTrex 30X!

Hi All,

Can anyone explain why map updates on an eTrex 30X (or I assume any eTrex), takes 4 hours! My internet connection is fine, Macbook Pro USB ports fine.

Funny thing is, if I remove the SD card and use a reader for Basecamp, the map usage is 100x faster than connecting the device so my suspicion is the eTrex hardware.

Another suspicion toward the eTrex hardware is that Pt.1 of the update is approx. 3.5MB/s (the file download) then Pt.2 drops to 583KB/s which is the actual install. For reference, a USB connection can theoretically transfer 60MB/s so it's not the Macbook.

Any thoughts are welcome...

Garmin engineers??

It's certainly quicker to download direct to a SD card than trying through the Etrex via it's USB1.0 connection, which is nothing like the 60 mbs you mention

Oh dear, so the eTrex uses USB 1.0! Wow ... archaic. That makes sense then...
