Garmin Express does not think my F5x is my activity tracker

Happens every time I connect the watch to my MacBook Air. It complains the fenix 5x is not my default activity tacker but, if I tell it to sync again, it works just fine.
What am I missing?

It is worth noting that I have a replacement F5x but it is set up as default activity tracker in garmin connect
