GE does not communicate with servers - update not possible

Version 6.1.1.0 doesn't communicate since some hours with the Garmin servers. --> no update of my new fenix 5x is possible. :-( :(
  • I received a notification from Garmin that the reason I was seeing no data was the Fenix 5X was not set as my "preferred tracker", which is difficult to understand as it was the only device registered against my account and when I tried to remove it to reinstall in Connect (not GE) I received a warning which effectively said "this device is your preferred tracker are you sure you want to remove?" Anyway I did remove it and then re installed it and I am now seeing data again, hopefully this info could help someone else.
  • Have just spent an hour on the phone to Garmin. Still not working and the reason might and I emphasize might be the inability to update one data sharing preferences. I updated Express and it could not contact the server, went in to update the preferences...same problem. Am awaiting now an email from Garmin.


    Further to this I managed to log on a computer running windows 10. Had many difficulties. I have just tried to sync my vivofit on my MAC and cannot open it as it cannot connect with the servers.

    I feel I have the same issue here. Express trying to sync my run keeps returning an error about not being able to connect to the servers. A second error I manage to produce by going into preferences tells me I should try to update my consent preferences later, because it is failing. So I do feel this the problem.
    It also feels like a catch 22. Can't connect because consent preferences aren't set right, but also can't change those preferences for lack of able to connect.

    Second issue is not being able to update to the latest Express. Clicking on the update in the about screen doesn't do anything and the general download on the website is still the older version. But I'm not too concerned about that yet, because from what I gather here the 6.1.2.0 update does not resolve this problem.

    Did anyone of you hear back from Garmin yet about this consent problem?

    Have the same issues with my Navigator IV. GE recognises my unit but will not let me buy the maps available. After going through the whole process I keep getting the message'We are unable to activate your purchase at this time. [FONT=Helvetica Neue]The server encountered a temporary error and we could not complete your request. Try again later.’ I've already reported this issue 3 times without any reply and yes I've followed all the recommendations. I've just tried again and now it won't even let me select my location in the Prices and payments options. This nightmare has been going on for months. I might just as well throw this unit away and get something from Tom Tom. I have never come across such poor support.[/FONT]
