Garmin Express latest update stopped working - Unexpected error

Former Member

My Garmin Express updated today and now no longer works. It recognises my device, but on trying to sync, I am getting this error repeatedly:

An unexpected error has occurred and Garmin Express must close. If you continue to experience this, contact Garmin customer support.

Is it possible to obtain from (Garmin) a previous version of the software rather than this latest one?

My OS is within the accepted range - El Cap, 10.11.16

Same here! I just got back from a run, and when I went to sync, Garmin Express told me there is a new version. I installed, and now, with version 2.30, no matter what I do, I get the same error:

"An unexpected error has occurred and Garmin Express must close. If you continue to experience this, contact Garmin customer support."

I've rebooted my Mac, etc, nothing works. Please fix or provide a link to downgrade to a previous working version!

    Mac OS X High Sierra:
    10.13.3 (17D47)

Same here, tried to uninstall + delete ~/Library/Application Support/Garmin, rebooted, re-installed the new version, doesn't work. Garmin Express 6.1.1.0, Mac OSX High Sierra 10.13.3, Garmin Forerunner 405.

    I found this in the log : 2018-02-14 10.03.47 (GMT-05:00) | 31747 | I | [DeviceAttached-3456901192] Changed to [Succeeded] phase. 2018-02-14 10.03.47 (GMT-05:00) | 58187 | W | ***Exception: name:NSInvalidArgumentException reason:-[AntGarminModeDeviceAgent enumerateStorageLocation:path:recursive:progress:error:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x60800005bcc0 2018-02-14 10.03.47 (GMT-05:00) | 58187 | E | ***Stack: 0 Garmin Express Service 0x000000010a9bd790 -[ServiceAppDelegate exceptionHandler:shouldLogException:mask:] + 520

I restored the previous version of Garmin Express with TimeMachine and turned off Wifi so it doesn't check for update when launching the app, and then turned on Wifi and my activity can now sync. So this is clearly a bug with the new version.

Excellent - had completely forgotten about time machine. I'll try that as a solution for now. Thanks.

Same problem here. The previous version of Garmin Express worked, but after updating to v. 6.1.1.0 I get this error when trying to sync my Forerunner 305:

    Error
An unexpected error has occurred and Garmin Express must close. If you continue to experience this, contact Garmin customer support.

I click Ok and then it immediately quits the application. I tried rebooting and reinstalling v. 6.1.1.0 - still keeps crashing.

I'm on Mac OSX Sierra, 10.12.6.

Also seeing the same issue; identical as OP. Is there any way of downloading an old release of Express from the Garmin site?

Just to add more to this, I tried the re-install off previous version from my time machine backup, but it looks like it launches / starts but seems to quit with no error. Am wondering if there are files stored elsewhere that are out of sync than just the Applications\Garmin Express folder.

Same issue here. So frustrating to be down since 2/14 when I updated.

I received an email this morning confirming that this bug has been fixed in the new Garmin Express 6.1.2.0 version :

    Hello,

The issue has been resolved with a new release of Garmin Express. Please update Garmin Express to the latest version release 6.1.2

The following instructions should walk you through updating Garmin Express.

    Mac:
    • Open Garmin Express
    • Click Garmin Express in the Apple menu bar
    • Click About Garmin Express
    • Click Check for Application Updates
    • Click Install Now if prompted

Once the installation is complete, Garmin Express will be up-to-date.

    Thank you for choosing Garmin,

    Mike
