Garmin Express doesn't recognize my Forerunner 305 on macOS High Sierra beta

Hello,

Garmin Express 5.6.2.0 doesn't recognize my Forerunner 305 on macOS High Sierra 10.13 Beta (17A360a). It seems that the problem started when I upgraded to macOS 10.13 beta.

When I connect my Forerunner 305 it beeps as if it was recognized but Garmin Express keeps showing the grey dot and actually freezes my computer for a couple of seconds and seems to briefly turn on and off my bluetooth.

Does anyone have this kind of issue? I know it's a beta version of macOS, so I'm hoping this will be solved when the final version is released, but perhaps there's a workaround? I've tried to connect my garmin on Windows and it worked, so it seems to be related to Mac only.

UPDATE: The same thing happens on macOS High Sierra 10.13 Gold Master Candidate.
  • So it seems, unless you run an older version of MacOS.

I hope they manage to fix it. They can't be serious about making so many devices almost useless. At least they should have warned users that something like that was coming. I wouldn't install the new macOS without a viable workaround.

I thought about a workaround but haven't had a chance to research it further: it should be possible to install an older version of OSX/macOS on a USB flash drive or an SD card and use that to boot my Mac from and sync.

I have the same problem. Can't use the forerunner 205 with web updater or Trainingscenter.
  • Same problem here with my Forerunner 305 since macOS 10.13 upgrade.

Same for me even on Fenix 5x
  • Upgraded to High Sierra 10.13 and Garmin Express is recking havoc - disconnects USB backup drive, disconnects blue tooth track pad and then reconnects. I cannot use my Forerunner 305.
I have Snow Leopard on my other Mac for stability reasons so it appears I am out of luck as Garmin does not support this stable legacy OS.

Is there a fix in the works?

Me too. Upgraded to High Sierra and my Garmin 305 won't sync. Garmin Express version 5.7.0.0 (latest). Also getting the intermittent Bluetooth and USB on/off cycle when trying to sync.

Garmin - please update us with progress. Thank you.
  • I have the same issue. I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017) and upgraded to High Sierra. Now my Forerunner 305 is not recognized any more. I uninstalled the garmin express app and tried a fresh install. Same issue - even after booting.

Would by great if garmin could update us with progress, even if answer is: "We won't provide a fix for this issue.".

Without uploading my data the forerunner 305 is pretty much useless for me.

Hello everyone, it seems that Garmin won't be providing a fix for this. This is their reply: "Unfortunately, if Apple is not including the drivers needed in their new OS then there isn't much we can do. Garmin is moving towards USB mass storage devices which won't have a problem with your Mac."

I don't think their passive approach to this is acceptable.

I'm not sure whether they really cannot ask Apple to include the drivers in the new macOS or whether they cannot provide any workaround. I've installed OSX Yosemite on a 16GB USB flash drive, but haven't been able to sync my Forerunner 305 yet (seems to be a different issue, though - Cannot connect to Garmin servers when I provide by Garmin login credentials in Garmin Express).

  • Garmin Express works with my GPSmap 62s and with my RV 760LM so why can they not get a work around for the forerunner?
As a former software developer, I think they do not want to spend the development money to find a solution for an older product.
