2017 Honda CRV Map Updates

Using Garmin Express to try and check for updates for my 2017 CRV. Took my 16gb thumb drive, got the information from the Honda. Took it to my Mac running El Capitan. Start up Garmin Express, click Add Device, plug in USB drive and it's never found. I've searched for anyone possibly having this issue, but can't seem to find anything related.

I know the USB drive is plugged in as it's accessible from my desktop in a finder window and I see the XML file that was retrieved from the Honda when plugging in the drive there.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Bryan
  • I suggest you either call Garmin Support or speak to Honda, It's unlikely anyone here has experience of this issue.

Thanks. I'll try Garmin first as it seems it's their app not working.

  • Your thumb drive should have a folder named "Garmin", and inside the Garmin folder should be a file "GarminDevice.xml" (which is just a text file, so you can look at it with TextEdit or any other text editor if you want). That's how Garmin Express determines that your thumb drive is a surrogate Garmin device rather than just a random thumb drive. Those files should have been written to the drive when you plugged it into the port in your car and (the proper port, if you have more than one in your car not all of them will work) and followed the instructions at honda.garmin.com/honda. The maps are not updated that often (I've had to update my 2016 Pilot once), so your 2017 probably already has the latest map (2017.0).
