Express not installing maps correctly

I've got a Montana 680t, bought OS Discover Lake District and initially used express to instal to the Montana. Subsequently bought an SD card, used Express to install to that and maps showed in Basecamp. I then deleted the 3 map files .Gma .img .uni from Montana and opened Basecamp and sd card map had gone. I tried a fresh install of the map in Express, selected sd card but it still isn't visible in Basecamp. I then did another install to the unit and both the unit and sd card maps showed up.

How can I delete the map from the Montana yet keep the sd card map visible?
  • Not sure from your description what you've done but if you want the map on the card just copy the files across into the Garmin folder on the card.

When I delete the device map to free up space after copying to sd card the copied map doesn't show in Basecamp? I have to have the device with map on. When I have both neither map showsin maps menu but if I go to installed maps the device version is there but not sd card
  • Mine are all on my card and show up. You may need to set them to be visible ... use JaVaWa's Device manager http://www.javawa.nl/jdm_en.html

I can't use that software, I'm using a 2016 Macbook pro touch bar, running Sierra and can't go backwards to El Capitan. About all it will do is "install" ie copy maps from device to card very slowly. Anything else generates an error message.

The OS map is only visible if I have it solely on the Montana, if there is a copy on the card neither version can be used. I've been around in circles trying different methods of copying and the only usable way is just a copy on the Montana.

Can't even work out how to get the map on the computer so I don't need Montana attached!
  • You can't install that map to your computer. What you can do is copy it to a USB stick or card, use that instead of your device.

Thanks, another USB device to add. I assume that copying to one of my usb hd's in a Garmin folder won't won't just a removable drive?
  • Don't know, the key is it must be a removable drive.
