Fenix 3/3HR/5 Freezes when disconnecting from MAC

Hi, there seams to be something wrong with the latest version of Garmin Express for macOS.

Almost every time I disconnect a Fenix 3/3HR/5 it freezes and require a soft reset.

Today I found a solution for this FREEZE-problem :-)

If I first quit Garmin Express (not just click on the red x) and then unmount my Fenix the watch doesn’t freeze.

Maybe not the best solution, but it seams to work.

It wold be great if this bug was fixed in the future :-)
  • I have had the same problem with (almost?) all versions of Garmin Express (now 5.3.1.0), Fenix 3 firmware and iOS. Annoying to having to reset F3 after every sync.
Still have the problem, and unfortunately your solution doesn't help.
  • I have tested this on a Fenix 3 with both OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) and macOS 10.12 (Sierra) on Express 5.3.1.0 and had no issues with the device freezing after syncing. I even tried unplugging without ejecting first and it still did not freeze. It did take about 10 seconds or so to show the home screen but this is normal. Is there any other information that may be relevant that you can provide that may help us duplicate this problem? Are there any software updates syncing or anything when you plug it in? Otherwise, it would be best to contact support so that we can troubleshoot this issue.

For many releases now my f3 shows as disconnected when connected, and connected when disconnected since around Sept last year. I am always on the latest public version of OSX, GE, and the f3 firmware. Does it with my old 310XT as well.. I reported it and was assigned a case number. Still waiting for a fix. Now that the f3 is no longer supported I don't expect a fix anytime soon.

    Hi!

I have had the same issues with all of my Fenix's (Fenix 3, Fenix 3 Sapphire, Fenix 3HR and Fenix 5 Sapphire) on two separate MacBook Pro’s.

It dose not always appear, but almost every time (mostly when I have transfered any files to/from the watch)

When I disconnect the watch, it goes back to the home screen but the time freezes and also the step counting & HR-readings.

  • I can confirm this happens to me with the D2 Bravo when using GE on MacOS. Like others I am running the latest version of MacOS, Garmin Express and the D2 Bravo firmware. Also like others, this does not always happen but when it does happen I must reboot the watch.

I run a Connect IQ watch face and realized that the only thing I haven't tried is to see if this happens with the built-in watch face or just Connect IQ faces (it happens on multiple CIQ watch faces not just one).

    Cheers,
    Douglas

Since I got my Fenix 5, I’ve only run built-in watch face, and still it freezes.

I have been having the same issue , frustrating. Here is a thread of what I mean.

  • Can someone please verify how much disk space is available on the device when this occurs? If it is nearly full, try clearing some of the old data off of the watch (activities, tracks, etc.) and see if this still happens.

  • Hi!

I have a new Fenix 5 without any downloaded content.

As mentioned above this happens inconsistently and I don't believe it has anything to do with disk space. After pairing my brand new fenix 5 right out of the box with my phone I immediately connected the watch to my Mac and it froze on disconnect. During the connection I did a sync but I did not download anything from Connect IQ.

    MacOS 10.12.4
    Garmin Express 5.3.1.0
    fenix 5 FW 2.90
