Garmin Express Crashing

Former Member
Former Member
When I tried to SYNC this morning, I got a screen saying...

"An unexpected error has occurred and Garmin Express must close. If you continue to experience this, contact Garmin customer support."

This is the first I can recall seeing a notice that I have a Software Update Available, which I am supposing is for my Vivofit 2.(i.e. version 3.50; File Size 66.5KB; Installation Time 2 minutes)

No matter how much I try, 1)Garmin Express ALWAYS crashes and 2)I can not SYNC my data.

This is on a MacBook Pro w/8GB of RAM running OS X El Capitan v10.11.6

I tried to attach screenshots of this, but the methodology of doing so eludes me.

    Also

    P.S.
    My Garmin Express is v5.2.0.0
  • You may be best doing as advised and contacting Garmin support.

    Already done, however

"Typical response time is around 3 business days. We are closed weekends and holidays."
  • The same vivofit2 update is blowing out Express during the update process on my mac too.

My Express also crashing after a device firmware update.

I reported a similar problem about two weeks ago to Garmin Support; after updating my Montana 600 via Express, clicking the "Tools & Content" button in Express causes the same crash as reported by the original poster, and happens whether or not the device is connected.

The last activity on my ticket (a week ago) mentioned that the GarminDevice.xml file on my device had something to do to create the crashing behavior, but have heard nothing since. (I'm sending a bump to Garmin to see what status my ticket is in.)

I am having this issue also. Vivofit 2 and Mac OS 10.12.3.
  • We have received some reports of this on the phone as well and have opened a case for this issue. In the meantime, since we haven't received any reports of this occurring on any other OS, if you have access to a PC or a mobile phone compatible with Garmin Connect Mobile, you should be able to complete the update without errors.

    Seems to be Mac-specific

I was able to test this situation on a Windows PC earlier today (Montana 600 vs. Garmin Express 5.3.0.0 for Windows) and everything worked. The same GPS against a freshly-installed Express 5.3.0.0 for Mac fails. Emailed to Support just now.
  • This issue should be resolved. If you are still having trouble, make sure that Express has been updated to 5.3.0.0 and try syncing again.

    Worked. Thanks!

    Successfully updated this morning!
