tried to download update & keeps saying OtherVersionRunningMessage

I was trying to do the most recent update, thinking that is why my activities aren't synching in the challenges, but now I get this message.
OtherVersionRunningMessage

I'm not the best with computers, so I don't know if I should be deleting some downloads once updates are done, but I have a tough time being able to tell which ones are the most recent.

Now I get this message and I don't know what to do.

Thanks!
  • Is this Windows or Mac OS?

I doesn’t sound like a problem with how many activities remain on your device, but if you do want to clean up, the files all have the date and time at which the activity began encoded into their names in a fairly straightforward manner. This is the name of the most recent activity from my Edge 1000:

    2017-01-26-05-28-48.fit
YYYY MM DD HH MM SS

Year, month, day, hour, minute, second. Simple.
  • Other version running

This is on my MacOS...not on my device and it is for updates. I'm not good at describing things, so I may not have made it clear what is going on.

I plug my 220 into the cradle and hit the icon on my dock at the bottom of my screen to open garmin connect to sync and then I get the message saying that Other Version Running Message. As if it is open somewhere else. It shows me where else it is apparently running, but I can't seem to close one or the other or discard one of them.

Does that make more sense?? Sorry, I'm really not very good at describing things!! :)

Thank you for trying to understand me! :D

  • Are you saying that you appear to have 2 instances of Garmin Express running? Press Command + Tab together, keep them held down and scroll using the keys. Exit the highlighted app by pressing Q. If that's too hard, try a restart of your computer.
  • Spumcgoo

This error is generally caused by installing an older version of Express over the top of a newer version. Please see OtherVersionRunningMessage error when Garmin Express is launched on a Mac

Thank you Jason, I didn't see your response until just now!
My friend uninstalled it and reinstalled and all seems good...

I thought that might have bee the problem.

Question...once I have installed the new download, can it be put into the trash, so that I don't do that again?

    Thanks again!! :)

I tried what you said, and it closed it, but there weren't two versions running that I could find.

I called a techie friend of mine who came over and said that the best thing to do would be to uninstall and reinstall.

So far so good. Thank you again for your ideas! I appreciate it! :)
  • Yep, sure can. Dump the older installers in the trash.
