Won't Load New activities

Cross posted from the Cycling forum...

Hardware/software:
Edge 500 - software version - 408.63
iMac27 (fully up to date)
Garmin Express

Generally I synch after every ride or two... has worked pretty much flawlessly forever .....

Last week I copied the 'Activities' files (the activites.fit files) from the Edge 500 to my iMac, then deleted those files on the Edge....

Since that time, when connected through Express, I can only load my ride data (from the Edge to Garmin Connect) manually....

When I hook the Edge up, my iMac sees it.. Garmin Express says I'm connected and have synched... but the data is not on Garmin Connect.... the Edge functions perfectly in all other ways...

I suspect I deleted some file or changed some setting somewhere, but don't know how to reset the device and make it start 'Auto Synching' when connected ....

FWIW.... I did turn off synch with Strava at the same time (just record the ride with the Strava app on my iPhone).... so the only program that I am uploading to is Garmin Connect...

It's certainly easy enough to manually import the ride data, but I like the connect and synch feature....

Any help on resetting or fixing this issue would be most appreciated....

TIA

The issue is the firmware version listed in your post, 408.63. This is not a valid firmware version. When an Edge 500 shows this version, Garmin Express will throw a server error when trying to add the device or sync it. The only resolution is to master reset the Edge 500. I recommend manually uploading your activities first:

Manually upload data from a USB Mass Storage device to Garmin Connect

Once all your activities have been uploaded, master reset the device:

    • Power device off
    • Press and hold Page/Menu, Start/Stop and Power simultaneously
    • Release buttons when the word "Garmin" disappears
    • Attempt to add the device in Garmin Express again

We have seen some cases where the device will need to be reset twice before the firmware version will report correctly in the GarminDevice.xml file. If after a second reset the firmware version is not reported correctly, contact Product Support by phone as the device will need to be replaced.

  • Many thanks for the quick reply....

How will I know if the firmware version is reported correctly?

    thanks again..

The last firmware released for the Edge 500 is 3.30. Once the reset has been done, this should be the version reported unless it was never updated to that version. But from your post, on how often you uploaded activities, the Edge 500 should have been current.
