Gaarmin Express does not see Nuvi 3490

I have a Garmin Nuvi 3490 LMT that i want to update. It has nog been updated since 2014.
However Garmin Express and Webupdater do not see the device on my Macbook Air.
I set the communication to Mass Storage Device instead of MTP, does not work.
I did the clear all user data (and then set it to Mass Storage again), does not work
Downloaded the newest versions of Garmin Express and Webupdater, did not work
Also tried JaVaWa but did not work.

The laptop does see the Garmin and the SD-card. I get 2 separate icons and can open them with the finder.

What else can I do to get it detected and update the maps??

I am sorry that you are having trouble updating your device. Please make sure that you have tried the troubleshooting in the FAQ Garmin mass storage or MTP device not detected by Garmin Mac applications. If you are still having trouble, it is possible that your device's memory is full. If this is the case, you can try deleting some of the unneeded languages from the Voice folder on the device (don't forget to empty the trash).

If these steps do not solve the problem, it would be best to contact Product Support by phone.

Thanx for the answer Jason.

I followed all the steps. Did not work.

Checked memory...full
Will try to delete languages.
How do I empty the trash?

You empty the trash the same way you do it on any mac ...

Hi, emptied the trash.
still memory full.
Deleted voices and other languages except dutch.
225 MB+ free
Reconnected to Garmin Express.
Still not recognized.

Looked for hidden files. There is still over 7.3 GB in a hidden .system folder.

Any of them I can delete?

Well, do not know how but Garmin Express saw the Garmin and have been able to update it.
I think it was because I deleted about 225MB of stuff and that caused some proces.
