Garmin Express Unexpected Error

So I'm trying to set up my Vivosmart HR+ in Garmin Express 4.1.22.0. When I get to the last page of profile information (the screen where you enter your birthday, height/weight, etc.) and click the submit button, I get an "Unexpected Error" message and the app closes.

Any idea how to work around this?

I am sorry you are getting an "Unexpected Error" when trying to open Garmin Express on your Mac. We do have a possible fix for this problem. Can you please try the following:
    • Click on "Go" at the top of the Mac's screen. (If you don't see this, click on an open space on your desktop.)
    • Select "Go to Folder..."
    • Enter ~/Library/Caches and click on "Go".
    • There should be a folder that starts with "com.microsoft.applicationinsights". Please open it.
    • Press the Command key + "A" to "Select All". (The command key should be next to the spacebar.)
    • Click and drag the files to the "Trash".
    • "Empty the Trash".
Now, please try opening Garmin Express again.

Let us know if it still does not correct the problem.

    Solution does not work

    Dave

There are no files in the folder you referenced. I trashed the whole folder.

I still get the following error: "An unexpected error has occurred and Garmin Express must close. If you continue to experience this, contact Garmin customer support."

It does not seem to matter what information I enter into the form. It does not seem to matter what computer I use (I am on a MacBook Pro 15" and my other computer is a MacBook Pro 13" both running OS X.)

After dozens of attempts I keep getting the same error message. I have tried other versions of Garmin Express.

I CANNOT GET PAST THIS ERROR AND WHILE I CAN NOT THIS $300 device continues to be a BLACK PLASTIC DONGLE ATTACHED TO MY COMPUTER.

I have NEVER had an error of this type for any other device, but I see that I am far, far from the only person with this problem, which seems to go back all the way to 2014.

My problem is that I bought the NEW watch from a private seller on eBay and he is UNLIKELY to want to refund my $300 because YOUR software does not work.

    Next suggestion?

At this point, it would be best to contact Product Support by phone for in depth troubleshooting.

If I'm having problems just setting up an account and linking the watch with not one but two of my computers, and I haven't even gotten started, I can't imagine what the future is going to look like. The last thing I want to do right now is be put on hold and wrestle over the phone for two hours only to have no solutions, which seems to be the case of most of the people who have had the same problems I am having.

Clearly, the watch is just not ready for the general public but remains only for those who are willing to spend hours and hours puzzling through computer interfaces and OS glitches and, as just said, talking to tech support.

If the solution is not reachable with a quick Internet search, I fear the tech support-phone path is not going to be able to help me either.

This just shouldn't happen right out of the box with such an expensive piece of gear. Like Apple always said, it should "just work."
  • For most folks it does. Somewhere though in your setup something has gone wrong. Diagnosing problems like yours over a forum is difficult, hence the advice to speak to someone.
