Cannot add device

I was having problems uploading workouts from my Edge 500 using Garmin Express. I tried removing it from Garmin Express and was hoping to re-add it, to see if that would resolve the issue. When trying to add the device, it is correctly detected by Garmin Express, but the following message is displayed: "We're unable to add this device because our servers are unavailable at this time."

I've been through the following steps as suggested by the support page for that message:

  • Garmin Express is up to date
  • Internet connection is a high-speed connection
  • Computer date and time are correct
  • There is no outgoing firewall
  • There is no proxy required

I've even tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling Garmin Express, following the appropriate instructions from the relevant support page.

I still get the same message when trying to add my Edge 500.

Do you have any further suggestions?

The Edge 500 sometimes creates incorrect information to give to Garmin Express which can prevent the completion of adding the device. I recommend that you manually upload the activities that are not already in Garmin Connect and then master reset the device.

How do I manually upload data from USB Mass Storage devices to Garmin Connect?

How do I master reset my Edge 500?

It may be necessary to reset the device twice before corrected data will be sent to Garmin Express.

If you continue to experience the error though, it would be best to contact Product Support by phone for further assistance.

  • Thanks, I've managed to add it back to Garmin Express now.

Initially, it wouldn't stay powered on when connecting the USB cable; it would show the Garmin logo, then turn off. I had to master reset it with the USB cable connected, then it would stay powered up when connected and I could add it to Garmin Express.
