Garmin Express won't connect to Ant USB stick

I have a Forerunner 410 that I've been using happily for several years with the Ant Agent and Ant USB stick. Today I decided to update to the latest Garmin Express software and now the Garmin Express software does not detect the Ant Stick.

I've searched through the forums and found several possible solutions, but none have worked. Here's the details:

Macbook Pro mid 2015
OS X version 10.11.2 (El Capitan)

Ant USB stick is recognized by Mac in any USB port I use (visible in System Information). At the top of the Garmin Express window, I see my device named but underneath it says "ANT Stick not Connected", with a gray dot next to it. Clicking "Sync" brings up the message "Unable to Sync: we couldn't sync this device because the ANT stick is being used by another application. To sync, quit any applications on your computer that may be using the ANT stick."

What I have tried:

1. Completely uninstalling and reinstalling Garmin Express.

2. Making sure ANT Agent is not installed.

3. Shutting down Garmin Express, removing the Ant Stick, and rebooting the machine.

4. Quitting Garmin Express and checking through the process list to make sure there are no ANT agent processes running -- as far as I can see there isn't, unless the ANT agent process is called something non-obvious.

Actually I would love to downgrade back to the software I had before but as far as I can tell that's not an option -- it's not offered for download any more. What else can I try?

I am sorry for the troubles with Garmin Express recognizing the ANT Stick. If the ANT Stick is recognized by System Info then this is an issue with the files saved when the device was first added. This was probably a much older version of Garmin Express. Please delete the Forerunner 410 from Garmin Express then add it back again.

This should resolve your issue. It seems like the other trouble shooting steps you completed should have accomplished the same thing but uninstalling Express doesn't delete the RegisteredDevice files. Please use the FAQ above to delete the device properly then add it back again. If you have any trouble adding it back please see the FAQ below.

Again I am sorry for the troubles.

Well, it took some fiddling, but I think it's working.

I removed my Forerunner from Garmin Express, and tried to pair it again, but Garmin Express still wouldn't recognize the ANT Stick. As the ANT stick was plugged into a hub (where I'd always had it before!), I moved it into an onboard USB port on my Mac. Still wouldn't recognize the stick, though now System INformation was showing an ANT Stick in *TWO* USB positions. I restarted Garmin Express, still didn't recognize the ANT Stick.

So I left the stick in the onboard USB port and rebooted the machine, and finally the ANT Stick was recognized. I was able to pair my device and successfully upload my activity from today.

Thanks again for your help, but if you have the ability to give feedback to your management:

    1. The ANT Stick should relinquish its claim on USB ports when it is removed

    2. Although the Garmin Express software looks flashier, I find it MUCH more fiddly and difficult to work with than the old ANT Agent.

Happy to hear you got the ANT Stick detected. I will close this thread.
