Map Update Problem(s)

This morning I was invited to install 'Europe 2016.20'.
I was informed that the storage capacity on the device (nüvi 1490) was insufficient, and use of an SD card was suggested (i have had such a card (4 GB) installed for years now).
When attempting to install, I was advised that the card was 'locked' and instructed to disconnect the nüvi form the computer, remove the card from the nüvi - and then put everything back in place again (in reverse order).
I did that twice, and am still told that the card is 'locked'(?).
Next option offered was to reduce map coverage - but it appears that I am forced to choose between 'Scandinavia' or 'Germany', and since I live in the southern part of Denmark - amd often go to Germany - that is a rather akward choice to make! :)

Before the present (happy?) Garmin Express days there were some other apps - 'Map Install' was one, I seem to remember(?). Are there still such alternatives to Express available??
  • I suspect you mean MapUpdater rather than MapInstall.

    However I suggest you first try formatting the card then try again. Ensure the card is formatted as FAT32 and only insert it when asked to do so by Express. Express has worked perfectly with my 1490 for many years now

    Surprise, surprise: When I connected the device(s) again I got the message: "You are updated - VersionLabel 6.30 - full coverage Europe 2016.20"! :) (?)
  • Glad its resolved. Strange that you didn't realise it was updating though as the process takes about an hour.

    Garmin Express will show that the maps are up to date if an unlock code has been generated in our database. I recommend checking the Map Info screen on your nuvi 1490T to confirm that the most recent mapping is installed.

    How do I check which mapping I have installed on my automotive device?

    If the Map Info screen does not show that the current Europe map is installed, you will need to reinstall the map update. I recommend deleting the device from Garmin Express and adding it back before performing the reinstall.
