Where are data files stored on Mac for Garmin Express?

I tried posting on the Forerunner 225 forum, but received answers about the device and not Garmin Express.

Problem is that Garmin Express thinks I am on 225 software version 2.90 and the watch and phone app say I am on software version 2.70. No problems with the watch, but it is annoying to have my phone app tell me to connect to Garmin Express to update the watch every time I run the app.

Somewhere, Garmin Express must have a data file recording the watch software version. I presume I need to delete this record to allow Garmin Express to download the current software version so it can be uploaded to the watch.

How can I delete the software version record on Garmin Express, or tell it the actual software version?

Could it be as simple as deleting the watch profile in Garmin Express and creating a new connection to the watch?

Help!
  • I'd certainly try that first.
  • No Go. :-(

I deleted the 225 profile from Garmin Connect, and then added as a new device. Garmin Connect still reports software version 2.90 when the device has 2.70 installed.

Looks like a phone cal to customer support is in order, or I wait until the next software release and see if it is recognized.

Good news is that watch works fine as is, so it is just an annoying inconvenience...

The current SW version for the Forerunner 225 is 2.90. It is possible the update file is on the device awaiting to be installed. Go to Settings -->System-->Software Update on the 225 and see if it prompts you to install. If not I suggest, you delete the device from Garmin Express rather than the GCM app then add it back again. Express should install the update to the 225, then the 225 will prompt you to allow it to install when you eject and disconnect from the Mac. FYI, deleting the device from Express on the Mac removes the folders that contain all relative information.

Updates problems also with Edge 810!

I've got the very same problem with my Edge 810!

Connected to the Mac and Garmin Express apparently installed the latest 5.00 software version.

However, when I turned on the Edge 810 and navigated to the system/about page the Edge 810 was still reporting the older 4.20 version.
Connected the device to the Mac and launched Garmin Express again only to have the 5.00 version still reported as already installed on the unit!

Quite strange and "disappointing"... I would suggest that the installation procedure of system software updates be reviewed by Garmin, as it seems like it is not working properly for some users! It should be a straightforward process, also because there's really not much way of interacting during the installation procedure that would help in getting things done properly. If it works straight away that's fine, otherwise it's up to the unlucky user to start figuring out what possibly could have gone wrong!
  • Have you tried what's posted above?

Only occasionally does a glitch like this occur, so to suggest there is something wrong in Express is slightly OTT.
