Forerunner 910XT - Crash During Data Transfer

Former Member

I upgraded to ElCap without any issue and Ant functioned fine. However, two days ago after my 910 started a data transfer, I received a notice to upgrade Garmin Express. I upgraded to the latest version v4.1.10.0, and my 910 then proceeded to crash (screen went blank) during the next data transfer. It then proceeded to transfer at a slow pace. The Garmin Express software gave an error message that the file was corrupt. 30 days worth of activities were deleted  from the device, and the newest activity never transferred to Garmin Express.:mad: Today, I used the 910 again and looked to upload an activity. However, again it crashed in mid-transfer. The activity is lost from the device and was not uploaded to Garmin Express.

Need help: 1) resolving the data transfer issue; 2) finding and fixing the corrupt data file from my earlier attempt.

Thanks,

Adrian

I am sorry for the troubles. Currently, there are no instructions within Garmin Express to delete activities from a device. It is possible that the internal memory of the device has reached its limit and created some corruption that caused the data loss. We recommend that all activities already uploaded to Garmin Connect be deleted from the watch. Every 30 days or so is frequent enough. In regards to the missing activities, if the watch was able to generate the activity files and send them to the computer they would be located in the directory below. This folder should be empty after each successful sync so if there are any files you can try to manually upload them to connect. The files are .FIT files and must have the .FIT extension added to the name before uploading if it is absent. If Garmin Connect rejects the files then they should be deleted, or at the least moved out of the folder.

Location of files before they are uploaded to Connect during a normal Sync:
    /Macintosh HD/Users/Username/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Express/RegisteredDevices/Unit ID of device/PendingSyncUploads/_FIT_TYPE_4/

The Library folder has been hidden in the Mac OS X since 10.7. If you are familiar with the Mac, open Finder then hold down the Option key and click the Go menu. Choose Library. This will take you directly to the Library folder in the path above.

To manually upload a .FIT file:

    • Sign into Garmin Connect
    • Click "+" icon in top right corner of page
    • Click Upload Your Activities
    • Click Manual Upload tab
    • Follow on-screen instructions

If the activities in question are no longer on the 910XT or in the FIT_TYPE_4 folder then unfortunately they are lost. To prevent future Sync issues I repeat my suggestion to keep the memory on the watch clean and also suggest you delete it from Garmin Express and Garmin Connect then add it back again.

Again, I am sorry for the troubles. Please contact Product Support by phone if they continue.
