Can't update nuvi 2569 with Express

Hi, I just got a nuvi 2569 so plugged it into my Mac, downloaded express and it told me I had some updates to do. The progress bar made it about 3/4 of the way across then got stuck on 5 mins and eventually failed. It does this pretty much every time. I've made sure I have no firewalls and that my proxy settings in system prefs are correct. The application is also hitting about 180% cpu in activity monitor.

How can I install these updates because Express seems to start the process of downloading, then just sits there and does nothing before failing.

I am sorry for the troubles. Is Garmin Express up to date at version 4.1.10? There are no current reported issues with Express spiking the CPU usage on any computer that meets the minimum requirements. This happened in a few cases several years ago in early versions of Express but has not been an issue or reproducible in testing since. Express stalling during the software update downloads is usually attributed to the local network or ISP. I suggest you restart your computer, cable or DSL modem, and bypass the Wifi network connecting via Ethernet cable directly with the modem.
Another option to update the firmware on the device and provide further troubleshooting information is to use the Garmin WebUpdater application.

    Garmin WebUpdater for Mac:

If you continue to have troubles please provide technical specs on your network and how you are connected along with the processor on the Mac or contact Garmin Product Support by phone so the issue can be thoroughly investigated.

Cannot update 2597 with MAC express either

    Hi,
I have a similar problem with 2597LMT. Before I had the EU maps installed on a 16GB SD with no problems. Now Express correctly states that the maps do not fit in the internal memory, and the SD will be used, During installation, somewhere near 75% , the progress stops and a red title bar is diplayed with the message ' there was an error installing the maps'. SD has been reformatted several times (FAT32). The error is persisting, several attempts have been made. 4.1.09 had this problem and 4.1.10 does not make any difference.

Interestingly, the PC version of Express does the install, but does not seem to see the SD, as it directs to select a region to install. Regional maps install OK, but in addition to the missing maps soem functionality is loost (e.g. Finnish voice commands).

Same here, it will not complete the update, my Nuvi 2569 will shut down.
It is not a power issue as I can have it connected and powered to my pc for 15 mn with no issue. But when the update is almost completed, my Nuvi shuts down every time. I don't know if its a memory issue in my Nuvi or an update issue. What's to do???

I am sorry for the troubles. What your describing sounds like memory issues on the device and or SD card. My best suggestion via the forum is to verify and repair the memory on the two and check to make sure you have Read & Write permissions.

    • Connect the device to the computer
    • Click Finder
    • Click Applications
    • Double-Click the Utilities folder
    • Double-Click Disk Utility
    • Select the Garmin drive
    • Choose Verify Disk (OS X 10.11 click First Aid)
    • Choose Repair Disk (OS X 10.11 click Run)
    • Close Disk Utility
    • Right click the Garmin drive in Finder (Hold Control + click to right click on a Mac)
    • Select Get Info
    • Check Sharing & Permissions and make sure it says Read & Write

Do this for the SD card and the Garmin then try the update again. If you continue to have troubles, call Product Support so they can investigate.

I found out more. First, my gps doesn't show maps and routes correctly anymore. The fail update messed up the original map that was already installed in my Nuvi. Second, It shows I have 38% of memory used and 4.68GB of memory available in my device.
I also tried to follow your advice, but I can not locate your 2. "Finder".
I might follow your second suggestion, and contact Product Support.
    Thanks BuboBubo

I am sorry for the troubles. You can also find the Disk Utility application using Spotlight to search but if your unfamiliar with Finder or Spotlight then I suggest you contact Product Support by phone. The instructions require the user to be somewhat familiar with the Mac OS and a wrong step in Disk Utility could be detrimental to the Nuvi.

Again, I am sorry for the troubles.

Customer support helped me fixed the issue. My AVG was in the way of the update. I disable my AVG and the update went smoothly. Thanks guys for all your help.
