Garmin Express and OS X 10.11 and Forerunner 220 and 620 devices

I am sorry about the trouble. Unfortunately, this will not be resolved with a Garmin Express update as this is not an issue with Garmin Express. Something was changed in OS X 10.11 that prevents the device's storage from mounting so it will not even display as a drive on the computer. We have created a case and are currently investigating this issue.

Jason

That is what I meant with my post:

The Garmin Forerunner 220 is not recognized after update to OSX El Capitan.

Got the issue with a Forerunner 220 and a Forerunner 620 on two different Macs with El Capitan.

    Bad news

Bad news is it won't work afterwards at Yosemite either.

That means if you once tried to connect your Garmin to El Capitan and it wasn't recognized it won't be recognized at all with other OSX versions.

I moved this post to a new thread as it is not the same issue as the Approach S5 and S6 on the Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan.

I just connected both a Forerunner 220 and 620 to my iMac running 10.11 and both devices mounted immediately with no issues. I then connected them to another Mac running 10.10.5 Yosemite and they mounted again, with no problems.

I recommend first verifying that your Mac is detecting the devices and then troubleshoot why it is not mounting or being detected by Garmin Express or other Garmin applications.

How do I verify a physical connection of a USB GPS device to a Mac?

Why is my Garmin mass storage device not communicating with Garmin Mac applications?

If you continue to experience difficulties, it would be best to contact Product Support by phone for further assistance.

I did this and the following is shown:

    Composite-Gerät:

    Produkt-ID: 0x2660
    Hersteller-ID: 0x091e (Garmin International)
    Version: 5.09
    Geschwindigkeit: Bis zu 12 MBit/s
    Standort-ID: 0x14100000 / 6
    Verfügbare Stromstärke (mA): 1000
    Erforderliche Stromstärke (mA): 500
    Zusätzlicher Betriebsstrom (mA): 0
    Kapazität: 5,1 MB (5.114.368 Byte)
    Wechselmedien: Ja
    Absteckbares Laufwerk: Ja
    BSD-Name: disk2
    Partitionstabellentyp: Unbekannt

    Any hints?

The error msg shown is the following:

If I do Initialize the disk utility shows the following.

As this happens with a FR 220 on a MacBook Pro AND a FR 620 on a iMac both on El Capitan (two different FRs on two different Macs) it seems to be a problem of El Capitan and the Garmin software or driver.

To solve the issue you have to turn off your Garmin Forerunner. Then turn it on and connect it to your Mac with El Capitan.
But BEWARE: All Activities will be lost. All language files are gone, too.

Sorry, not really good news as I have lost all the runs of the last month. Thanks a lot. :-(

I am sorry for the troubles. We are unable to reproduce this in house. I suggest you contact Garmin Product Support by phone so the issue can be investigated. Powering off either of those devices should not cause and files to be deleted. Only if the files were put in the Trash on the Mac would powering off possibly cause the loss of items in the hidden .Trashes folder.

Again I am sorry for the troubles.
