Full JCV file?

During the latest update to CN NA 2016.20 the date and filename of the junction view file on my zumo 660 did not change.

Is there a way to obtain the updated JCV file?

Thanks,

-dan
  • I will be interested to see the response to danham's question as there are many folks with nuvi 8x5 and nuvi 1390/14xx models who would also like to know.

Yes there is. Do a web search for

    D3060190A.jcv

    It's 818MB.

Garmin used to make it available but they stopped doing so a while back.
  • It looks to me like I got a new JCV file (dated August of this year), 700-something MB, but it is not the full one. I think this is because Express decided I lacked enough room (and it would have been close, so perhaps the installer needs some additional overhead).

I looked around the web for copies of the full JCV file and there are lots of them available for download. BUT, they all are on sites that host stolen maps and are likely infested with malware and require registration or even fees. No thanks.

A quick test shows Lane Assist working and so I've concluded that I have a good enough JCV file for now.

    Your call.

My 1490T got a 24.9MB JCV file via the standard map update process. It is next to useless. One can easily put the large JCV on a card (as I do).

Garmin obviously decided that many older models, being "obsolete" (mine works just fine), don't qualify for the large JCV file and thus no longer make it available.

As for pirate sites you've correct. That said the JCV is a data file and I seriously doubt anyone would try and develop malware for a (obsolete) Garmin GPS.

As for the download sites themselves being infected that is a possibility. That's where knowledge about browsers etc is useful :)

I have a lifetime maps subscription for my 1490T. I get the latest maps using Garmin software. If Garmin chooses to make the large JCV unavailable I don't feel bad getting it elsewhere.

PS: FYI these pirates get it from Garmin's servers either directly or by "updating" a clone device and uploading the files. In either case Garmin has the file and makes it available to some.
  • Stuart,

Good points. I ended up doing some housekeeping on my zumo 660 and removing the "old" JCV file, then asking Express to Change Map and re-isntall. I now have the larger JCV file. I thought I had enough room for the update, but it installs the JCV file last and apparently needs more overhead than I allowed for.

As for malware, I should have been more specific. You are right that the odds on the JCV file being infected are very low (not so the stolen maps, however). I just prefer not to patronize such sites at all, even though my iMac is somewhat less vulnerable than some platforms [g].

FYI I've read reports that this file doesn't work (show JV's). I just tested it (1490T) with the CN NA NT 2016.20 maps with test points/routes I keep in my unit and JV's displayed just fine.
  • D3060190A.jcv is working fine for me as well on both my nuvi 855 and nuvi 755T.
