Are map updates supposed to take 3+ hours?!

Hello everyone,

Just got a new nüvi® 55LMT and connected it to Garmin Express right out of the box. I have a MacBook Air, running the latest Yosemite, and downloaded the updates on Garmin Express without a problem while my Garmin was plugged into the computer. Once everything was updated, I unplugged my GPS to use it.

Unplugged, the GPS shows my current location as Chicago (I'm in DC and inside; Joaquin may be affecting my signal) and every time I (re)start the Garmin, I get asked to "install some updates." I say "yes," (the screen pops up every time) and I'm told: "installing update files. This may take several minutes."

It's been 4 hours and that load bar has been in the same place the entire time, despite Garmin Express telling me that I'm "all up-to-date," the update tries to keep installing on my unplugged, brand new GPS.

Is this normal, is Joaquin messing things up or did I just get unlucky with my purchase?

I am sorry you are having trouble with your nuvi 55LMT not completing the updates. It is not normal for it to keep telling you to restart. Most likely, a software file that Garmin Express saved to the device did not save correctly. Please reconnect the device to the computer and run Garmin Express again. It should still have the software update available since it is not installing.
    * Note: Please be certain to always Eject a device before unplugging it from the Mac.

If the device still reboots more than once, please try loading the software using the ">Garmin WebUpdater for Mac v2.1.3">Garmin WebUpdater for Mac v2.1.3.

Let us know if you still have trouble.
