New Authentication Required

Former Member
Former Member
Hi,

As soon as I try to sync, Garmin Express (new update 4.1.7) always ask a new authentication for Garmin Connect. It works but it doesn't sync so I push the Install button again (2 segments to install on my Edge 810) but Garmin Expresse keep asking: "New Authentication Required". And again and againt etc...

Help anyone?

Thanks

I am sorry that you are having trouble with Garmin Express. Try entering your Garmin Connect credentials this way:
    • Open Garmin Express
    • Select your device
    • Click Tools
    • Click the Garmin Connect tab
    • Click Sign in or Change account
    • Enter your Garmin Connect username and password
    • Click Sign in

  • Same problem

The solution given doesn't work as it just shows as already connected. It is when I attempt to install updates to device it requires re-authentication but even after doing so won't work.
I had this problem a week ago and uninstalled Express and removed all Garmin data from computer. Then reinstalled. It then worked for a week but has now stopped again. I can connect no problem with phone and via web browser but this latest version of Express is seriously wrong.
Here's a screen grab, showing Garmin Connect and Garmin Express at the same time.

Did you try choosing Change account and re-entering your credentials like I suggested in step 5? If this does not work, please contact Product Support by phone.

  • I have tried your solution. New account, re entering credentials. It connects no problem. Then try to update the segments and it asks for credentials again, round and round and round it goes.
I have sent an email I am not going to spend my life on the phone.
The previous solution offered, not this one posted here, but the one offered by support last week, was to uninstall and remove the garmin folder and then reinstal. After doing all that it did start to work again. Then it all stopped again this evening.
I can get my Strava segments via the phone app and update Strav that way so I am just of a mind to remove this stupid bit of software from my computer all together.
  • And this is what gets written into the Express log each time the error occurs
    "2015-09-10 23:52:53.1940 | 1 | W | Error syncing device.
System.ServiceModel.FaultException`1[Garmin.Omt.Service.Faults.UnauthorizedFault]: The creator of this fault did not specify a Reason"

This issue is rare and almost always related to data coming from or going to the Edge during the Sync. I suggest you delete any old history, courses, workouts on the device that are already available in Connect. This might be related to the Segments transferring to the device. Disconnect with your connect account from Strava, remove the Edge from both Express and Connect to remove supporting files on the computer. Add the Edge it back Express and Connect without connecting to Strava. Create a short test activity and see if it will sync without the Authenticate prompt. If that works then Connect the account to Strava again and select a couple of Segment and see if the transfer of Segments to the Edge is causing the problem. If you continue to have troubles please contact Garmin Product Support by phone so it can be investigated.

  • The situation relates entirely to Strava segments.
I had already deleted all courses from my 810 and activities. Everything else works without a problem but when syncing Strava segments the problems start.
As I have said it all syncs no problem when connected by Bluetooth to my phone so I am just not going to use Garmin Express until you actually fix it.
I note you acknowledge this as a problem in the change notes of a previous version of Express and say it has been fixed. Sadly you haven't.
    Just to repeat
    Things tried
Everything was deleted from my device.
Everything related to Garmin express deleted from computer.
Garmin connect disconnected and reconnected from Strava.
    None of this works.
I have now got no Strava segments on my phone and everytime I open Garmin express it tells me they are there waiting to be installed but goes through the same routine.
I am completely fed up with this nonsense.
Before the firmware update I was able to place Strava segments on my phone manually using Ginza. I deleted all of those segments when the new firmware promised to allow Express to install them. However it is rubbish.
I now have no segments on my phone.
I think I will just return to using Ginza as that works.
I understand that this is not in fact a rare problem as support insists but actually common .
Wouldn't it just be far better to get rid of Garmin Connect and Garmin Express and allow the Edge machines to conect directly with Strava, eventually you are going to do this anyway.

Same problem with vivofit2 and Garmin Express

I changed my vivofit2 settings in the Garmin Connect website and I'm trying to "transfer" the new settings to my device using Garmin Express (version 4.1.8.0) and the ANT stick but it is not working. I have tried to SYNC it several times for the last 48 hours and the only message I get from Garmin Express is: "Re-authentication required. We are have trouble linking to your Garmin Connect account. Please sing in again."

I uninstalled Garmin Express from my computer and deleted all Garmin files and installed it again but still didn't solve the problem.
I also followed all the "solution"proposed by the Garmin Customer care and it didn't fix the problem!!! (Open Garmin Express/Select your device/Click Tools/Click the Garmin Connect tab/Click Sign in or Change account/Enter your Garmin Connect username and password/Click Sign in)

I signed in several times using the correct email and password but it doesn't work! When I try to SYNC again, the same message pops-up!!!

It looks like your Resting Heart Rate is set to 0 in your Connect - Profile - Settings - Training Zones menu. Delete all 4 items from the Sync menu on the left then change the Resting Hear Rate value. Click Save at the bottom of the screen then new items should then appear in the Sync menu to be sent to the vivofit.
